The Athlete Development Program (ADP)

Welcome to our Athlete Development Program (ADP) Page!

Our Mission

To empower our student athletes to excel in and love their sports by providing them with the tools to reach their full potential.

Who is the ADP for?

Student athletes who:

  • Want to be the best version of themselves.
  • Want to become stronger, faster, more explosive and powerful.
  • Want to take their sport to the next level, representative/state/elite/national.
  • Want to minimise risk of injury.
  • Most likely already have a high training volume (we help you to stay on the field/court).
  • Looking for a one-stop shop for all their sporting aspirations.

At Greensborough College, our ADP students are "STUDENT'S FIRST, ATHLETE'S SECOND".

The Key Stats:

  • The ADP was established in 2017.
  • In 2024, we have 137 student athletes in the ADP & the Athlete ID program.
  • 87 students participate in Sports Coaching.
  • In Term 4 2023, 55 students applies and tried out for the Year 7 ADP class for 2024.
  • 25 students are selected for the ADP class each year.

Features of the ADP:

  • A full comprehensive musculoskeletal screening that highlights any biomechanical shortcomings including a detailed injury history.
  • Ongoing fitness assessments and goal-setting plans.

STRENGTH & CONDITIONING

  • ADP students participate in 3 strength and conditioning sessions per week.
  • 2 sessions are within the normal academic timetable.
  • 1 session is to be completed either before school or during lunch (students choose the most appropriate for them)
  • All student athletes have an INDIVIDUALISED training program specifically designed for them.
  • Our strength and conditioning coaches continually monitor and refine the individualised programs.
  • Our training program designs include a CUSTOM section where students work on areas that are specific to their needs. This may include prehab or rehab exercises.
  • We successfully help students to completely recover from the below issues.
    • Osgood Schlatters
    • Patella tendonitis
    • Chronic rolled ankles
    • Shoulder impingement
    • Muscle imbalances
    • Shin splints
    • Knee pain
  • All strength and conditioning sessions are held in our High-Performance Centre.

We teach our student athletes:

  • Injury prevention
  • Warm-up protocols
  • Flexibility and mobility techniques
  • Evidence-based and cutting-edge training techniques
  • Recovery practices
  • Load management

Rehabilitation:

  • We regularly communicate with student physicians regarding injuries and rehabilitation.
  • This allows students to complete their rehabilitation within their strength and conditioning sessions.

Our Strength & Conditioning Coaches:

Fitness Testing

  • All ADP athletes participate in fitness testing at the beginning and end of the year.
  • We use this data to create individualised training programs, to assess their strengths and weaknesses and for students to see the progress in their training.

WHY IS OUR ADP THE BEST?
  • Every student has an INDIVIDUALISED training program written specifically for them.
  • Our coaches are qualified and extremely experienced.
  • Most of the training is completed during a normal school timetable.
  • The main focus of our ADP is the strength and conditioning. This helps us to cater for a wider variety of athletes, not limited to just the mainstream sports. We aim to keep kids on the court/field!
  • Our second focus is the offering of more sports specific coaching, whereas many other sports schools focus more on the sports coaching, missing the importance of individualised strength and conditioning.

SPORTS COACHING (Optional)

  • In addition to the ADP, we offer Sports Coaching in three sports: AFL, Basketball & Tennis.
  • Sports coaching is an optional extra.
  • Any student can apply to participate in Sports Coaching.
  • Students do not need to be in the ‘ADP’ class to participate in the Sports Coaching.
  • Students must apply and try-out for the Sports Coaching.
